IFES, in collaboration with the Central Election Commission (CEC) and IREX, is teaming up with libraries nationwide to provide voters with information to prepare them for the October 25 local elections. By stocking libraries with informational materials, the project aims to educate Ukrainian voters on the electoral system, step-by-step voting procedures, and rights and responsibilities of voters (with a special note on sanctions for vote buying).
Over the past two weeks, IFES has conducted a training for oblast-level librarians (48 librarians from 22 oblast-level libraries as well as Kramatorsk, Severodonetsk and Kyiv city libraries) as well as a webinar for 65 rayon-level libraries to educate them on key election procedures and equip them with the knowledge and information needed to answer election-related questions from voters visiting libraries, as well as from the lower-level librarians who will be giving out voter information leaflets. Some librarians were so inspired by the project that they have conducted similar trainings for their colleagues and have invited voters to visit libraries for more information.
IFES, together with the CEC, has produced over 100,000 copies of an informational leaflet and 11,000 copies of a similar poster which are being distributed to all libraries across the country to educate voters as they prepare for local elections. The materials include information on when and how voters can exercise their voter rights, as well as the electoral system and novelties of the local election law. Copies of the leaflet and poster can be found attached. We invite our partners to disseminate these products through their own channels (online or in print).
Sincerely,
IFES Ukraine Team
