Five Days of Training, New Ideas, and Partnerships: How the Second Camp within the “Together We Are Powerful” Project Completed

15 August 2025

From 11 to 15 August 2025, the second training camp, “Fundraising and Sustainable Development of Disabled People’s Organizations,” took place in Lviv region. During the first two days, participants got to know each other, built team spirit, and immersed themselves in the world of fundraising. The following days were even more intensive: they learned how to read grant calls, analyse donors’ technical requirements, write effective applications, build communication strategies, and respond to crisis situations.

Each session was highly practical. Participants examined real grant competitions, presented their own ideas, and practiced showcasing their work in ways that inspire confidence among potential partners. Separate sessions focused on engaging supporters through social media and developing strategic communication.

The program was further strengthened by two experienced trainers – Kseniia Pecherska, a lawyer and fundraiser with expertise in strategic planning and organizational development, and Kateryna Shobotenko, a communications and crisis-response expert. Their practical sessions helped participants develop fundraising and communication plans ready to implement immediately.

“This camp showed that we are stronger together. New ideas for joint projects have emerged that will unite different regions. And the most valuable gain is the sense that each of us now has a powerful network of like-minded partners across Ukraine,” emphasized Project Coordinator Yurii Vasylchenko.

A special feature of the camp was the balance between intensive training and physical and wellbeing activities: swimming, boccia, and recovery therapies. This helped participants not only absorb new information but also recharge, which is particularly important for people with disabilities.

Participants’ impressions:

“For the first time ever, I received such a comprehensive view of fundraising – from planning to communication. Now I know where to begin to attract resources in a systematic way.” — Anastasiia, participant from Lviv region.

“The most valuable element was the practical exercises and analysis of real competitions. You immediately see the mistakes we have been making in applications and how to fix them.” — Liubov, NGO representative from Zaporizhzhia region.

“The camp gave me confidence that we can implement larger projects. I am returning home with a clear action plan and contacts of colleagues with whom we already agreed to cooperate.” — Iryna, activist from Donetsk region.

The final day was dedicated to summing up results, sharing reflections, and planning future collaboration. Participants returned home with a clear understanding of their next steps to strengthen and empower their organizations.

The project “Together We Are Powerful: Capacity Building of Public Organizations of People with Disabilities” is implemented by the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine (NAPD) in partnership with the humanitarian organization “People in Need” and with financial support from the people of the Czech Republic.
