On 4 September 2025, the first stage of the training program within the project “Together We Are Powerful: Capacity Building of NGOs of People with Disabilities” was launched in Kyiv.
Participants represent disability organisations from various regions of Ukraine who are striving to become agents of change in their communities. During the training, they will learn how to:
understand the principles of barrier-free environments, inclusion, and universal design;
analyse public spaces from the perspective of persons with disabilities and other groups with limited mobility;
apply legislative and regulatory requirements regarding accessibility;
conduct assessments of facilities for architectural and information accessibility.
“We want every community in Ukraine to become accessible for everyone, regardless of physical ability. This training is not only about knowledge, but also about practical skills that will help participants drive change in their cities and villages,” said Project Manager Yurii Vasylchenko.
Over the course of two days, participants will gain theoretical knowledge and practical tools that will enable them to effectively engage in the work of local Accessibility Committees and Inclusion Boards.
This training is only the first step. The next meeting, during which participants will present their completed tasks, will take place in November 2025.
The project “Together We Are Powerful: Capacity Building of Public Organizations of People with Disabilities” is implemented by the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine (NAPD) in partnership with the humanitarian organization “People in Need” and with financial support from the people of the Czech Republic.
