Yesterday, on July 13, 2022, the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine (NAPWD) held a A working meeting of the heads and leaders of the public movement of persons with disabilities - members and partners of the NAPD. The purpose of the meeting was to raise awareness of the heads and leaders of public organizations of persons with disabilities about the latest changes at the national level in the field of social protection of persons with disabilities, as well as to exchange information on the activities of NGOs to help people with disabilities as a result of the Russian invasion at the local level.
The event was attended by more than 30 representatives of public organizations of persons with disabilities and persons with disabilities from different regions of Ukraine.
The event was opened by the Secretary General of NAIU Viktoriia Nazarenko, who greeted all those present and spoke about the important events of this week, in particular, the meeting with the Association of Disabled People's Organizations in England - the Reclaiming Our Future Alliance - ROFA. During which its representative Mark Harrison spoke about the work of civil society organizations in England.
In addition, Viktoriia Nazarenko drew attention to the fact that the first version of the draft Plan for the Reconstruction of Ukraine has appeared and it is very important to take into account the needs of people with disabilities.
The Advisor to the Chairman of the National Assembly of People with Disabilities told more about the project of restoring Ukraine Pavlo Zhdan.
The recovery plan can be found here: https://ua.urc2022.com/plan-vidnovlennya-ukrayini. The plan itself consists of 23 chapters and 3000 pages. After listing all the pros and cons of the first draft of the Recovery Plan for Ukraine, Pavlo Zhdan noted that the NAIU plans to analyze the draft Recovery Plan in detail and study the feasibility of the published developments to the draft.
Viktoriia Nazarenko and Pavlo Zhdan also spoke about the draft laws and letters of opposition that were processed over the past week. Mr. Zhdan spoke in more detail about the letters sent to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on creating an unhindered environment at the state border crossing points, as well as on the maintenance and operation of the protective structures fund.
In the second half of the meeting, the participants discussed the current situation in the regions and the extent to which civil society organizations can influence this situation. They drew the participants' attention to the importance of developing a strategy for the further work of NGOs and the NAIU. Viktoriia Nazarenko noted that in order to develop this strategy, the NAPD has developed a survey for the heads of NGOs on the problems in the lives of people with disabilities and possible ways to solve them, which will be sent out for a survey.
