It is with deep regret that we inform you that on April 17, 2025, Tetiana Barantsova, a human rights activist, founder of the Ami-East organization, government commissioner for disability, and representative of the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine in Luhansk Oblast, passed away.
Tetiana was a constant voice for people with disabilities in Ukraine, an inspiration and driving force behind inclusive initiatives. A person who always put the interests of people with disabilities first. Together with her team, she created the Brigantina online school, which has enabled thousands of internally displaced children with disabilities to get an education and develop. Tetiana organized inclusive events, creative festivals and workshops, which became an important space for sharing experiences and support.
Her desire for change and her fight for the rights of people with disabilities had a great impact on the development of inclusion in Ukraine. Tetyana was not only an active lobbyist for change, but also a real activist who always knew how to find the right words and arguments to convince people who refused to see the problems of this category of citizens.
In 2020, Tetiana was awarded the European Nansen Prize for her dedication to helping refugees and has become an example to many in her honesty, determination and uncompromising approach to human rights.
RIP to Tetiana Barantsova.
