The National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine (NAPD)) appealed to the McDonald's representative office in Ukraine with a call for professional cooperation in the field of accessibility.
Despite the formal implementation of accessibility elements in new establishments of the chain, NAPD specialists have recorded a number of violations that not only do not comply with current building codes, but also create new barriers for low-mobility groups. In particular, problems were identified in new restaurants on Vokzalna and Sevastopolska Squares in Kyiv, where tactile strips do not perform their functions, and in some places even create risks for users.
NAPD, with its many years of experience in developing state building codes, offers McDonald’s expert assistance in developing and supporting accessibility solutions. This collaboration will avoid unnecessary costs, a formal approach to accessibility, and contribute to the creation of a truly inclusive space.
The Assembly proposed organizing a working meeting to discuss opportunities for cooperation.
