Thanks to the advocacy efforts of the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine (NAIDU), social benefits were restored to a person who had previously been denied assistance. As a result of the re-examination of the case, the relevant authorities decided to allocate state social assistance to low-income families, which, together with a one-time cash support, amounted to over UAH 100,000.
Initially, the applicant was denied benefits due to the excess of the average monthly income over the guaranteed subsistence minimum. However, thanks to an appeal to the NAIU, the case was reviewed, and the recourse payments for the loss of the breadwinner were excluded from the calculation of income. This allowed the applicant to be recognized as eligible for social assistance.
What was achieved:
- State social assistance in the amount of UAH 11,302.50 per month has been assigned from November 2024, which will increase to UAH 12,189.60 in 2025.
- A one-time allowance of UAH 6,500 was paid for each child under the Warm Winter program.
- The total amount of resumed payments amounted to UAH 71,363.40 of state aid and UAH 32,500 of one-time support.
This case is yet another proof that the legal support and human rights advocacy work of NAIU has a real impact on the lives of people with disabilities and low-income families. If you or your family have faced similar difficulties, contact NAIU - we will help protect your rights!
