When Support Helps You Move Forward on Your Own Path

17 August 2026

Svitlana, from the village of Oleksandrivka in the Kodyma community, creates paintings, takes part in exhibitions, and presents her work at festivals. Her room has become a creative studio where fairy-tale scenes, landscapes, and images inspired by nature come to life.

Svitlana may spend several weeks working on a single painting, carefully considering its composition and details. She finds inspiration in the rural landscapes around her, in conversations with people, as well as in materials and instructional videos she watches on social media.

Art helps Svitlana express her feelings and cope with difficult periods in her life. Her younger brother went missing while defending Ukraine. Waiting for news about him has become part of the family’s everyday life. In her work, Svitlana turns to hopeful and uplifting imagery, expressing her hope that her brother will return and that other Ukrainian families will also be reunited with their loved ones.

Svitlana lives with her mother. She moves around independently at home with the help of assistive devices, takes part in household activities, and stays in touch with friends.

Svitlana does not travel often and spends most of her time close to home. Having more opportunities to spend time outdoors, plan trips independently, and connect with other people is important for her everyday life, physical activity, and creativity.

Through the Women’s Health project, Svitlana received a tricycle selected to meet her individual needs. This assistive device has a stable design and can provide additional support for balance while moving.

The Women’s Health project helps women with disabilities receive support tailored to their individual needs, contributing to their health and creating more opportunities for participation in community life.
