Launch of the Advocacy Campaign in the Storozhynets Community

30 June 2025

In our daily routines, we rarely pause to reflect on how much a simple, sincere, timely, and precise form of support can mean. For many persons with disabilities, internally displaced people, and those living on the edge of vulnerability, such support is not just about easing everyday life. It’s about dignity, choice, and the ability to remain active members of their communities. This is exactly the goal of the project “Multi-sectoral Humanitarian Assistance with Disability Inclusion for IDPs, Returnees, Veterans, and Host Communities in Ukraine”, which continues to operate where help is needed most.

The project is implemented by the National Assembly of Persons with Disabilities of Ukraine (NAPD) in partnership with the European Disability Forum (EDF), and with funding from the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO) and CBM (Christian Blind Mission).
Його ключовий принцип – адресна допомога, яка враховує реальні потреби конкретної людини.

One of the project’s participants, Ms. Nina from the Karlivka community, received such personalized assistance. Nina has lived with a disability since childhood. She is a mother of two daughters and now a grandmother as well. For 33 years, she worked as a nurse in a district clinic, helping people every day.

Her late husband, who also had a disability, led the local organization of persons with disabilities. Together, they were a real team. "We both understood the challenges of living with a disability, because we had experienced it ourselves since childhood - not only how to live with it, but how to grow, and care for others," says Ms. Nina.

After her husband’s passing, Nina has continued their shared mission. She takes part in creative, sporting, and community events, supports others, and inspires many with her example.

Through the project, she received financial aid, a wheelchair, and an anti-decubitus cushion - items that have significantly improved her daily life.

This project exists so that no one is left alone with their challenges. It is not about pity, but about recognizing dignity and creating the conditions where every person - regardless of health status or age - has the right to real support and self-fulfillment.

Together with our partners, we are building an environment where support is not the exception but the norm. Where barriers are replaced with new forms of cooperation and mutual respect.
