The National Assembly of Persons with Disabilities of Ukraine, with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Momentum Wheels for Humanity, has launched a hotline to provide legal assistance to persons with disabilities and the elderly.
During the month and a half of the hotline's operation, lawyers provided more than 70 legal consultations.
The legal aid team received the most requests for IDP status; material support and financial assistance; registration or prolongation of disability; timely receipt of social benefits, pensions, scholarships and housing subsidies.
In addition, during the war, there are almost daily requests for advice on issues related to the procedure for traveling abroad for persons with disabilities and persons accompanying them; the procedure for obtaining mobility aids or compensation for their own purchase; and the grounds for deferment and discharge from military service.
The legal aid team was approached by people with disabilities of various nosologies: people with visual, hearing, and musculoskeletal disorders, people with mental illnesses, and parents of children with disabilities.
Legal advice was provided both by phone and in writing to those who stayed in Ukraine and those who went abroad.
We remind you that you can contact the hotline for legal assistance by calling +38050 905 07 95 or by sending a short message to office-naiu@ukr.net with a note in the subject line "legal assistance".
