Module 4. Presentation 4.3. Learner Profile: Identifying Needs and Planning Support

The presentation focuses on the systematic identification of learners’ individual needs and planning the support required. The material helps educators distinguish educational needs from medical restrictions, recognise possible barriers and risks, and determine what the VET provider can address itself and where other professionals and partners need to be involved.

Participants are proposed to build a learner profile step by step by analysing the learner’s educational and professional experience, needs directly related to learning, barriers and resources in the educational environment, psychosocial needs, and potential risks. Particular attention is paid to who should respond to identified needs and how – the VET provider or external partners.

The practical outcome will be an “Individual Learner Needs Map”, which helps move from a general understanding of a person to specific decisions about how to organise their learning and support. The material also encourages participants to look for solutions that can be implemented by changing the educational environment or pedagogical approach, including solutions that require no additional funding.

The presentation can be used during training sessions, in-house professional learning, and team-based work by VET provider staff as part of Module 4 of the Trainer’s Guide.
