The National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine continues to cooperate with communities within the framework of the project «Crisis in Ukraine: Disability-inclusive Response and Recovery led and coordinated by organizations of persons with disabilities (Phase 2)» with the support of the European Disability Forum (EDF) and the Christian Blind Mission (CBM). The second phase of the project aims to strengthen the humanitarian response to the needs of people with disabilities and the elderly.
On the occasion of their professional holiday, the Day of Social Workers, the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine presented social workers from 10 communities with brand new bicycles. The gifts were given to employees of 11 municipal institutions in Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovs'k, Zhytomyr, Poltava, Sumy and Odesa regions.
A bicycle is a great helper for a social worker, as it helps to shorten the distance from one service recipient to another, and it also helps to reach another village faster. After all, social workers have to travel tens of kilometers between community villages to help the elderly, people with disabilities, and others in difficult life circumstances.
The distribution of bicycles took into account the greatest workload per employee (number of people served) and the geographical location of the wards.
The bikes are equipped with spacious baskets where the workers will be able to put their purchases and other necessary items for the wards. By cycling, the specialists will be able to cover their route much faster, and they won't have to carry a heavy backpack or bags.
«We thank you for your generosity and indifference, because good deeds do not go unnoticed, as help in this difficult time for all of us is not just material values, but confidence that together we will overcome any adversity,» thanked the social workers of the Center for Social Services of the Teteriv Village Council.
