We act together - we overcome difficulties together

March 29, 2024

War forces us to change our lives and adapt to wartime conditions. Since the first days of the war, the NGO «Association for the Protection of Rights and Assistance to People with Disabilities «Open Hearts» has been providing emergency crisis support to people with disabilities, including IDPs, the elderly and families with children with disabilities in rural areas. The activity of people with disabilities and their family members in protecting their rights and advocating for their interests is very low, as it is associated with ignorance, lack of motivation, and de facto isolation.

The war has significantly worsened the quality of life for all Ukrainians, but people with severe disabilities who need constant outside help and their families are among those who find themselves in the most difficult circumstances.

They found themselves in total isolation, on the verge of poverty, having lost access to humanitarian aid and social services, and were effectively excluded from life. Mothers and guardians are unable to work because they have to take care of their children and wards all the time. The social and psychological condition of these families is constantly deteriorating. They need psychological and humanitarian assistance and support.

Within the framework of the project «Crisis in Ukraine: Response and Recovery Taking into Account the Needs of Persons with Disabilities under the Leadership and Coordination of Disability Organizations (Phase 2)» is implementing a mini-project «Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Humanitarian Response in Vinnytsia Oblast».

The mini-project will last only three months, but the organization plans to do a lot of good deeds during this time. Provide information, counseling and psychological support to people with disabilities, families raising children with disabilities, legal representatives of incapacitated persons, the elderly, including IDPs. Provide humanitarian support in the form of food certificates people with disabilities, the elderly, families of children and adults with childhood disabilities. Provide social and labor adaptation services for people with disabilities over 30 years of age who need outside help.

We thank the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the opportunity to feel safe!

The project «Crisis in Ukraine: Response and Recovery with the Needs of Persons with Disabilities Led and Coordinated by Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (Phase 2)» is being implemented by the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine in cooperation with the European Disability Forum (EDF) and the Christian Blind Mission (CBM).
