On July 16, 2024, the National Assembly of Persons with Disabilities of Ukraine, with the support of the European Disability Forum, successfully held a webinar on the preservation of life and health by organizing a safe environment in war. Particular attention was paid to the needs of people with limited mobility.
The webinar was held on the ZOOM platform. The event was attended by representatives of public associations of people with disabilities, UN clusters and international organizations, as well as local governments.
The expert of the webinar was Tetiana Zhydkova, a consultant on architecture and construction, PhD, associate professor at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The participants had the opportunity to learn about the following topics:
- Presentation of international experience in civil protection, in particular, the experience of Israel, Singapore and the United States
- Analysis of Ukrainian realities in this area
- Discussion of practical examples and accessibility standards
- Answers to the participants' questions
The webinar provided an opportunity to discuss important security issues in times of war and learn about best practices and accessibility standards. Participants highly appreciated the content and usefulness of the information received.
We would like to inform you that the NAIU has developed Methodological Recommendations on ensuring the accessibility of shelters for temporary stay of people with limited mobility.
