To mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine (NAPDU) handed over 20 smartwatches to deaf people from Mykolaiv region.
This initiative took place as part of the "Crisis in Ukraine: Response and Recovery with Persons with Disabilities in Mind (Phase 2)", which is being implemented with the support of the European Disability Forum (EDF). The project is aimed at supporting people with disabilities and their representative organizations in response to the challenges posed by the war.
It is especially important to provide access to modern technology now, during the war, when every alarm or emergency requires a quick response. Smartwatches will help people with hearing impairments stay in touch, receive important alerts and act in time, increasing their safety.
Larysa Bayda, project manager, said: "Modern technology opens up new opportunities for people with disabilities. We are happy to be able to contribute to providing access to these technologies, especially for people who need it most."
The transfer of the watches is part of the systematic work of the NAIU aimed at supporting people with disabilities, including deaf people, in communities and providing them with the necessary tools to adapt to the modern world.
Deaf people from Mykolaiv region who received these devices thanked the NAIU and the project partners, noting that such support is especially important in times of war, when attention to the needs of people with disabilities is critical.
This initiative is an example of how to promote inclusiveness and improve conditions for people with disabilities through simple but meaningful steps. The NAIU calls on the public to continue to join initiatives aimed at supporting people with disabilities, because only together we can create a barrier-free society.
