When efforts are united, anything is possible!

January 4, 2024

An example of this is the residents of Holoborodkivske village in the Karlivka community of Poltava Oblast, who took to the streets to improve their medical facility in terms of accessibility and comfort for all segments of the population.

Since September 2023, the project "Crisis in Ukraine: Response and Recovery Taking into Account the Needs of Persons with Disabilities under the Leadership and Coordination of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (Phase 2)", implemented by the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine (NAPDU). One of the project's areas of focus is determining the accessibility of healthcare facilities for people with disabilities and low-mobility groups.

In November, accessibility experts, together with community members, conducted an accessibility audit, which revealed that the existing only medical facility in the village was inaccessible to people with limited mobility. The commission determined that it would be more expedient to move the existing rural health center to a building with running water and heating than to renovate the existing building.

As of today, an estimate has already been drawn up and a work plan is in place. Thanks to the coordinated work of the community members, work has begun on the renovation of the premises.

Namely:

✔️The old doors were dismantled.

✔️Tiles in the bathroom are being dismantled.

✔️Construction waste was removed.

✔️The next step is to disassemble the bathroom partition and dismantle the bathroom.

Part of the funds for the work will come from the project, which is being released by the NAIU with the financial support of the European Disability Forum (EDF) and the Christian Blind Mission (CBM).
