"Childhood — without limits": a new advocacy campaign has been launched in the Torchin community

14 August 2025

An important advocacy project has begun in the village of Torchyn, Volyn region, changing not only the infrastructure but also the community's attitude towards children with disabilities. The initiative, called "Childhood — Without Limits," aims to create an accessible, safe, and friendly environment for all children.

The project involves the construction of an inclusive playground in the central park of Torchin. The main idea is to give every child the opportunity to play and communicate in a single inclusive space: accessible, dignified, focused on mutual respect and acceptance.

The initiative is implemented within the framework of the all-Ukrainian project "Multi-sectoral Humanitarian Assistance for IDPs, Returnees, Veterans and Their Host Communities in Ukraine", which is implemented by the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine, the NGO "Charivne Yangolyatko" in partnership with the Torchyn Village Council.

An open meeting with residents dedicated to the advocacy campaign was held at the Torchin Public Library. They talked about the barriers and challenges that society creates for families raising children with disabilities.

The expected results of the initiative are the creation of an inclusive area in the central park, the involvement of the community in joint events, namely discussions, workshops and competitions, the conduct of an advocacy campaign that raises awareness of the needs of children with disabilities, and the active integration of children with disabilities into public life through participation in joint events.

The idea of the project is not limited to infrastructure. It is about values. It is about recognizing that disability should not become a limitation in communication. That every child has the right to play, happiness, and a sense of belonging. And that is why today the Torchin community is not just building an inclusive playground. This is a new step towards building a community of equal opportunities.

This material was prepared as part of an advocacy campaign implemented within the framework of the project "Multisectoral Disability-Informed Humanitarian Assistance for Internally Displaced Persons, Returnees, Veterans, and Host Communities in Ukraine."
The project is implemented by the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine in partnership with the European Disability Forum (EDF) with the support of the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO) and CBM (Christian Mission for the Blind).
