Have you ever wondered what «recovery» means for each of us?

May 20, 2024

Today, politicians, officials, leaders of civil society movements and organizations, and international partners talk about rebuilding Ukraine almost every day. The team of the National Assembly of People with Disabilities decided to conduct a quick survey among 148 respondents who are representatives of low-mobility groups.

We asked what people with disabilities think should be a priority in Ukraine's recovery. Which issues should be addressed first and foremost, and which can wait?

More than 90% of respondents focus on reconstruction, restoration and construction. At the same time, 98% are unaware of the Recovery Plan for their community and the country as a whole.

According to the survey, the first priority is to restore:

✔️ medical institutions;
✔️ private housing;
✔️ schools and kindergartens;
✔️ transportation infrastructure.

And to build new shelters accessible to all categories of people.

In addition, 70% of respondents pointed out the importance of supporting households, for example, in the form of state financial assistance. All survey participants believe that it is especially important to promote the development of medium-sized businesses in times of war.

Ukrainians want not only to rebuild facilities in the postwar period, but also to return people to a full life. For example, 81% of respondents say they want to learn new skills that can be used to rebuild the country.
