Another victory for Ukraine! Yelyzaveta Moskalenko in the final of the International Low-Vision Song Contest for blind performers“

May 17, 2023

Last Friday, May 12, the finals of the International Low-Vision Song Contest for blind performers, organized by the Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired in Germany (DBSV), took place.

This year, for the first time, a representative from Ukraine took part.

Yelyzaveta Moskalenko, a fourteen-year-old Ukrainian girl from Mykolaiv region who was forced to leave her home and move to Khmelnytskyi because of rocket attacks and bombings. After the Russians destroyed her school, she wrote a song: “We are Ukrainians!”.

At the Lviv School for Blind Children, she found a friend who wrote an arrangement for the song, and then there was a national selection organized by the Right to Choose with the assistance of the All-Ukrainian Society of the Blind and the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine, where Yelyzaveta won a landslide victory, as her performance impressed both the audience and the picky jury members.

This year, 17 countries from four continents participated in the competition.

Blind and visually impaired singers, bands and duets showed a high level of skill.

Ukrainian listeners could follow the event live on Radio Homer, UTOS's Internet radio station, with simultaneous translation into Ukrainian.

The result of this action was an indescribable, overwhelming manifestation of support for Ukraine by our friends from Europe.

This support resulted in the victory of the Ukrainian representative!

Yelyzaveta Moskalenko, author and performer of the song “We are Ukrainians!”, showed the whole world that we are not to be defeated!

The entire blind community congratulates Lisa and Ukraine on their victory!

We believe that such small victories in various spheres of life will certainly build our great Ukrainian victory!

And our children will compose poems and write songs only from positive experiences.

In turn, the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine, with the financial support of the European Blind Union, awarded 6 winners of the All-Ukrainian stage of selection for participation in the international Low-Vision Song Contest - ILSC with financial assistance.
