Module 5. Presentation 5.1. Ensuring Accessibility of the Educational Process: Adaptations and Reasonable Accommodations

The presentation focuses on practical solutions that help make the educational process in VET providers accessible to learners with diverse needs. Its purpose is to develop educators’ clear understanding of adaptations and their ability to select appropriate pedagogical and organisational solutions.

This material systematically examines adaptations to the learning process, educational environment and equipment, as well as assessment methods. Through practical examples, participants analyse how the pace and format of presenting material, the structure of tasks, workplace organisation, use of equipment, or the form of a response during assessment can be adjusted.

An important emphasis of the presentation is that adaptation does not mean lowering learning-outcome requirements. The proposed changes should ensure access to learning while preserving the requirements for vocational competences and avoiding new risks. The practical activities conclude with identifying specific adaptations, providing a rationale for them, assigning responsible persons, and determining how such decisions will be documented.

The presentation can be used during training sessions, in-house professional learning, and team-based work by VET provider staff as part of Module 5 of the Trainer’s Guide.
