Module 4. Handout 4.1. Case Study “Maksym”

The “Maksym” case invites participants to consider the situation of a VET learner who experiences difficulties with attention, self-regulation, and emotional responses, but does not have officially recognised disability status, an assessment report from an Inclusive Resource Centre (IRC), or other documents formally establishing a need for support.

Using Maksym’s training as a motor vehicle repair mechanic as an example, participants can analyse how the organisation of learning, delivery of instructions, interaction with educators, responses to feedback, and the learner’s social and family context affect his participation in the learning process.

The material is based on an ICF-oriented approach and focuses on the person’s needs, functioning, and interaction with the educational environment, rather than strictly on the presence of formal status or a diagnosis. Practical questions help identify the learner’s barriers and strengths, analyse existing pedagogical approaches, and propose specific changes that could improve his participation in vocational education and training.

The case can be used for training and group work as part of Module 4 of the Trainer’s Guide.
