On May 29, the Resource Center of the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine (NAPD) held a webinar titled “Modern Approaches to the Rehabilitation of People with Visual Impairments in Ukraine” as part of the “Rehabilitation in Ukraine” (Rehab4U) project.
The webinar provided participants with up-to-date information about state-guaranteed rehabilitation services for people with visual impairments, as well as a clear action algorithm with a list of institutions that offer such services.
In times of war, the need to widely disseminate this information is becoming increasingly urgent. Every day, more people are facing challenges with routine activities such as moving around their homes, using a phone, or going to the store—especially those who have partially or completely lost their sight.
The event featured practical approaches, real-life cases, and methodologies for the rehabilitation of people with visual impairments, highlighting various aspects of social, psychological, and vocational rehabilitation. Institutions that shared their unique experience included:
- State Rehabilitation Institution “All-Ukrainian Center for Comprehensive Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities” (Lutizh village), https://vcpri.com.ua/;
- State Rehabilitation Institution “Center for Comprehensive Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities ‘Podillia’” (Vinnytsia), https://www.podillia.vn.ua/;
- NGO “Rehabilitation Center ‘TRINITY HUB’”, https://www.trinityhub.org.ua/uk;
- All-Ukrainian League of Organizations of People with Visual Disabilities “Modern View”, https://gssp.org.ua/.
Participants learned about modern rehabilitation approaches, orientation and mobility training methods, assistive technology usage, and international best practices in visual impairment rehabilitation.
The webinar was attended by about 130 participants, including persons with disabilities, representatives of organizations of persons with disabilities, and rehabilitation specialists.
