Opishnyanska hromada: support is close by - provision of individual assistive technologies to the hromada continues

June 18, 2025

The project "Multi-Sectoral Humanitarian Assistance with Disability for Internally Displaced Persons, Returnees, Veterans and Host Communities in Ukraine" continues to provide support to the Opishnya community. Dozens of community residents have already received rehabilitation aids that are critical to ensuring mobility, dignity and activity in everyday life. The equipment includes functional beds, wheelchairs, crutches and other devices that increase people's autonomy.

One of those who received help was Ms. Nadiya Ivanovna, an energetic community resident who had worked on a farm all her life. Many years of hard work affected her health, and later she suffered a stroke. To improve her care, the family needed a functional bed - but could not afford to buy one on their own.

Thanks to the appeal of Ms. Nadiia's daughter to the project and the efforts of the coordinators, the bed was purchased. According to the family, this step has significantly improved the quality of life for the whole family, and Nadiia Ivanovna has started smiling again.

"This is not just equipment. This is care. It is an opportunity to feel not alone, but to be part of a supportive community," says Ms. Nadiya's daughter.

Timely assistance, especially in situations of complex physical condition, is crucial. It not only facilitates care, but also helps to restore, reduce complications, and return to active life. This is the basis of the project's approach - to support those in vulnerable situations, taking into account individual needs and respecting the experience of each person.

Human rights begin with respect. Caring, accessibility and interaction are not the exception, but the norm in a community that chooses inclusivity.

The project is implemented by the NGO "NAIU" in partnership with the European Disability Forum (EDF) with the support of the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO) and CBM (Christian Blind Mission).
