Mykola Anatoliyovych, 65, lives in the village of Buyany, Torchyn community, Volyn region. For more than two decades, he has been living with a disability caused by complications after serious illnesses. Due to diabetes and a stroke and heart attack, the man has significant health problems and requires constant medical support.
His wife, Hanna Adamivna, also has health problems, but continues to work to provide her husband with the necessary treatment. Together, the couple have organized their daily lives and care in a way that allows them to maintain independence in their daily lives.
Ms. Hanna notes that attention and support are very important for their family: "When there is no health, when someone in the family is so seriously ill, it is very difficult. And we are sincerely grateful to those who do not forget about us, who help, support, lend a shoulder."
The Yarem family received financial assistance within the framework of the project "Multi-sectoral Disability-Informed Humanitarian Assistance for Internally Displaced Persons, Returnees, Veterans and Host Communities in Ukraine", which is implemented by the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine in partnership with the European Disability Forum (EDF) with the support of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany (GFFO) and CBM (Christian Mission for the Blind), which they will be able to use for their current needs.
Targeted cash assistance is an important tool for supporting people in difficult life circumstances. It allows recipients to independently determine their priorities - to purchase medicines, pay for treatment or provide necessary care. This form of assistance helps to preserve a person's dignity and autonomy, giving them the opportunity to make decisions about their own needs.
Similar support is provided within the project to various population groups — people with disabilities, internally displaced persons, veterans, returnees, and residents of host communities. Thanks to this approach, assistance becomes not just financial, but a tool for equal opportunities and improving the quality of life for everyone who needs it.
