Module 5. Presentation 5.2. Work Placements and Safety: Organising Inclusive Practical Training

The presentation focuses on organising inclusive work placements in compliance with safety and occupational health requirements. Its purpose is to help educators plan practical training that takes account of learners’ individual needs and identify the necessary adaptations to the workplace and learning process.

This material takes participants step by step through the main elements of organising a work placement: selecting and assessing the placement provider, agreeing on possible workplace adaptations, organising mentoring and support, and allocating responsibilities between the VET provider and the employer. Particular attention is paid to response procedures for difficult situations, including deterioration in health, a panic reaction, conflict, or a breach of safety rules.

Practical tasks help participants determine which adaptations can be applied without lowering vocational standards or creating additional risks, and how work-placement outcomes can be assessed while taking those adaptations into account. The key principle is to assess the outcome and the competences developed, rather than the speed or method used to complete a task.

The presentation can be used during training sessions, in-house professional learning, and team-based work by VET provider staff as part of Module 5 of the Trainer’s Guide.
