Module 4. Handout 4.1. Case Study “Olena”

The case focuses on an adult with a disability who has decided to change occupations and retrain with a VET provider. Using the example of Olena, a learner with a hearing impairment, participants can analyse how the presentation of information, organisation of learning, communication, and conditions in the educational environment affect a person’s participation in the educational process.

The material is based on an ICF-oriented approach and invites participants to identify not only barriers, but also the learner’s strengths and resources. Practical questions at the end of the case help participants analyse the situation and propose specific changes to the provider’s practice that could improve accessibility and the individual’s participation in vocational education and training.

The case can be used for training and group work as part of Module 4 of the Trainer’s Guide.
