“Peer to peer” - Paralympians to help wounded ATO soldiers in Turka district
Starting from February 1, the Western Rehabilitation and Sports Center in Yavoriv village, Turka district, will be ready to receive military personnel wounded in the ATO zone. This was announced by the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Ihor Zhdanov during the opening of the second stage of the Center's construction.
«The center will also provide rehabilitation for ATO soldiers through sports. The center is ready to receive the first soldiers and veterans from the ATO zone,» said Igor Zhdanov.
Valeriy Sushkevych, President of the National Committee of Sports for the Disabled of Ukraine, also said that soldiers who became disabled during the Anti-Terrorist Operation would be able to start a new life among Paralympians and Deaflympians. In particular, he said that the NATO Agency, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the National Committee for Sports for the Disabled of Ukraine are currently working on a joint project to rehabilitate ATO soldiers at the Western Rehabilitation and Sports Center.
«Our goal is to show that a warrior can achieve a lot even after receiving a serious injury. This program is designed to restore his faith in life,» emphasized Sushkevych.
Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Valeriy Sushkevych also added that the development of the Center in Turka district will continue and in 2015 it is planned to build a rehabilitation and sports building with a complex of gyms, balneological and water recreation facilities; a cross-country skiing track, an indoor passage and a stadium building for the biathlon and skiing complex.
