Rights of women with disabilities: progress, barriers, initiatives

Despite the existence of national policies and laws and regulations on human rights and gender equality, the issues of women with disabilities are not integrated into all areas of public policy, and their rights continue to be violated.

In 2020, the state of Ukraine will report to the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, presenting its 2nd and 3rd Periodic Reports, including on the implementation of Article 6 «Women with Disabilities» The NGO «National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine» with the support of UN Women conducted monitoring of the observance of the rights of women with disabilities in different regions of Ukraine.

This information will be used to prepare an Alternative Report to the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

On November 27, a roundtable discussion «The Rights of Women with Disabilities: Progress, Barriers, Initiatives» was held in cooperation with the Secretariat of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights and UN Women to discuss the data collected and recommendations developed.
