March 1, 2017. The Parents for Early Intervention in Ukraine program in Odesa.
On March 1, 2017, Odesa will host an initiative meeting of the Odesa Regional Platform of the All-Ukrainian Forum «Parents for Early Intervention in Ukraine».
The event is organized within the framework of the EU project «Strengthening the capacity of parent-led organizations to support the implementation of reforms aimed at the rights and needs of young children with disabilities in Ukraine». The project is being implemented by HealthProm (London), the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine (NAPWD), and the Early Intervention Institute Charitable Foundation (Kharkiv) as part of the Parents for Early Intervention in Ukraine program.
Early intervention is a globally recognized approach that has been shown to be effective and cost-efficient, maximizing children's chances of reaching their full potential. It is an important factor in preventing child abandonment/institutionalization and reduces the likelihood of poor long-term outcomes for children and their families. EB involves implementing interventions at the time when concerns about a child's development and/or disability first emerge, at an age when the child's brain is still developing. It is a social model that takes into account the needs of both the child and the parents, aims to strengthen the family's capacity, and is focused on cooperation and partnership with parents, and thus a departure from the outdated and narrow medical model that does not include the child's parents, as well as linkages with social and educational service providers and the wider community.
